After working for over seven years with Jens Hansen Gold & Silversmith (makers of the One Ring, immortalized in Tolkien’s movie trilogy, Lord of the Rings) master jeweller Benjamin Clark launched Benjamin Black Goldsmiths, in 2012. Since then life has been a hectic mix of working on commissions, designing the new range, opening a store and generally forging a sparkling reputation in New Zealand and increasingly around the world.

It is fascinating work. We start by discussing the budget and work through the materials, production and design aesthetic. Often we will provide a simple sketch or CAD image to show how the concept will look.

Only when agreement is reached on each area will we move to production, usually starting with a single piece if we are working with a company. The sample will be sent (often internationally) and final  production commences only after quality and fabrication is approved.

No one does classic style better than Audrey Hepburn, and as it would have been her birthday on May 4, we decided to put together a small style tribute for Audrey.

Idolised by fashionistas since the moment she graced the planet with her seductively stylish presence, Audrey has remained one of the greatest fashion icons of our time.

When it came to wearing scarves Audrey had it down to a finely mastered art.  Head scarves were a particular favourite of Audrey’s and some of her most famous images were captured with her donning a head scarf, such these images below.
